Attorney profile

Andrew Shipp

Building relationships is important to Nacogdoches attorney Andrew Shipp, founder of Shipp Law Firm since 2011. Your family may be young or aging, traditional or nontraditional, a family of two or many. At some point, you will find you need the skills of a legal professional. Andrew has a unique vision for his small, approachable firm and the experience to handle your legal matters with authority. He doesn't promote himself as being all things to everyone, but he focuses on that which builds family legacies and relationships over time. His vision is to recapture the idea of the family attorney, one whose clients know can advise them better than a generalist would do. They know he is trustworthy and capable, and will do anything within his power to ensure they are fully protected and represented.

Andrew will always greet you with a warm, unpretentious, down to earth and honest demeanor. Whether it's estate planning, probate, guardianship, adoptions, family contracts, deeds and minerals, oil and gas or residential estates, he has expertise in building and planning family wealth.

He knew as a teenager that he wanted to be an attorney. While most of his friends were studying engineering, he was more interested in the intricacies of legal work. He learned honesty and compassion from his family growing up in Ruston, Louisiana, and went on to attend Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. He returned to Ruston to attend Louisiana Tech University after he met his future wife Rachel there. He majored in history and political science and graduated in 2005. He enjoyed his experience at Baylor University School of Law, revealing that it was fun, but also admitted he learned optimum efficiency juggling a schedule of studying and attending classes while at the same time raising with Rachel their three sons Gabriel (Gabe), Jonah and William (Liam). Four more children followed, including Margaret (Maggie), Anna Mae, Nathan and Evelyn (Jane). Andrew received his Juris Doctor degree in May of 2009 and was admitted to the State Bar of New Mexico in 2009; the State Bar of Texas in May 2011 and the State Bar of Louisiana in May 2016.

As an associate attorney at a law firm in Roswell, N.M., he excelled in estate planning and probate, which he discovered he loved while attending law school. It was there he decided that he wanted someday to open his own law office. He later worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Roswell. The family moved to Nacogdoches in 2010 and he founded Shipp Law Firm in 2011 while working as an independent contractor in the Office of the Texas Attorney General, Child Support Division. There he was responsible for reviewing and approving pleadings prior to filing, drafting special pleadings and orders, investigating and negotiating cases with non-cooperative parties and advising Child Support Officers. Andrew also gained significant experience working in New Mexico in surface and mineral title examinations, abstracting, leasing, agreement negotiations and other land services areas. He currently serves as General Counsel for multiple private companies and non-profit organizations, advising on all aspects of corporate legal issues.

His reputation for dedication and commitment to whatever he is involved with is not limited to his professional life and is evidenced through leadership roles in the community, including active membership and committee/chair appointments to the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce board of directors; Leadership Nacogdoches; Nacogdoches Main Street Advisory Committee; Rotary Club; Boys and Girls Club; United Way; and Nacogdoches Economic Development Corporation.

Andrew works to make a difference not only in his business but in the education of youth and has been a guest lecturer of Constitutional Law and coach of the Mock Trial Team at Regents Academy in Nacogdoches. He has also served on the Thesis Review panels for senior thesis presentations and coaches the Academy's junior high basketball team.
